PSP upgrade in 7 simple steps
This guide will show you how to upgrade your psp in a clear and concrete fashion.
First of all you should know that a psp update can be reversed. This process is also called the downgrade. Most people have been mistaken when it comes to psp emulators and they thought they have to update their psp in the past whereas the real method to make emulators work was to downgrade.
However, a team of developer called the M33 team is now releasing new custom firmware on a regular basis. As soon as sony upgrade their firmware, you can find a new M33 firmware that will allow you to keep the pace with the psp update game.
What is the M33 firmware? The last M33 firmware is called the 4.01 M33-2. It is an unofficial firmware that includes the last sony firmware functions.
Therefore you will be able to browse on internet, use skype for psp software and go! Messenger program. The most important part of this psp update is that it supports UMD, ISO and CSO as well as demo games that require the last sony firmware. You will of course be able to play the homebrew games developed by the community and also the PS1 games!
So how do we update the psp with the last M33 firmware?
Firstly you need to identify your PSP. The method is not the same if you have a classic PSP or Slim and Lite PSP.
For the classic psp, you need to turn on your psp while pressing the R button in order to access the recovery menu. Once inside, go to configuration and make sure that the game folder homebrew is set to “currently 3.XX Kernel”.
If it is the case you can leave the recovery menu but using the back and exit buttons.
Now that you have checked your kernel version, you can start the psp update.
Step 1 – First of all download the Ready to Use pack from M33.
Step 2 – Connect your Playstation Portable console to your computer with the usb cord.
Step 3 – Turn the console to USB Mode and open the Ready to Use package that you have previously downloaded.
Step 4 – Copy the extracted package inside your PSP memory and turn off the usb mode of your psp. Now you have all your files copied inside your psp and you turn on your psp in standalone mode.
Step 5 – You need to go inside the folder Game and then Memory stick. Launch the psp upgrade process.
You will see that the psp will make some file checks and ask you to press X to start the update.

Step 6 – You have to accept the new licence by pressing the right arrow button. Once the psp upgrade is done, you should press the X button to restart your console.
While the psp reboot, you will see a confirmation screen that tell you that the update process has been successfully done and that you now have the last M33 firmware installed.
Step 7 – You can now delete the temporary files inside your Memory Stick or even format it.
Copy your iso or psp rom and enjoy your last psp update!
