PSP TV: Watch the TV on your PSP.
Have you ever heard of PSP TV? This tuner has been released by Sony on the Japanese market during mid ’07. It allows you to watch tv on your playstation portable by plugging this module to the USB connector of the PSP.
This system is great however it is only compatible with the 1-Seg television system only available in Japan.

An other system from Sony is the LocationFree TV module that works with a base station. This device uses the Wifi to broadcast any video source. You can then setup the base station on your DVD player, satellite or whatever you want and watch the video with the Wifi network function. Therefore you can set the LocationFree TV to stream your favorite channels from home and retrieve them on your psp while you are abroad if you can connect your psp to a wireless access. This PSP TV solution is however very costly as you will have to spend at the least of the console in order to buy this extension.
The last option for PSP TV is to look upon psp homebrew products that will allow you to catch wifi tv channels. It is useful when you live in big cities where hotspots can easily be found but useless otherwise. Moreover we should note that most of those homemade applications are still often buggy and need to be improved in order to look really good. The most renown software for the PSP TV function is called TVSP. However in this case you will need to install a TV capture card in order to broadcast the signal. The best thing is you can even change channel but there is one huge hole: the sound is not yet implemented on this homebrew.

Now if your concern is to display your psp screen on your TV, you can use several modules that will allow you to do so. You can try the PSP TV adaptator or PSPonTV. They will not discard your warrantee as you don’t have to open the PSP in order to make them work. Be aware that the PSPonTV can’t display the game on the screen. It rather works like a webcam, grabbing what is on the PSP screen and project it on the TV screen. It is like recording the screen of the PSP with a camera and rendering it afterwards. Therefore the quality is inferior at what you can actually see on your Playstation portable. For a PSP TV use, we found that the PS2TV extension works very well, you can have a look at this picture:
