How to find psp rom ?
A psp rom, also called an ISO, is the term to describe a game that has been copied from an original UMD disc to a computer’s hard drive. An iso is a backup of the data written on an UMD disc. How do people use rom to play game on their own psp?
In general, people use rom to either play the psp game on their computers via a psp emulator or simply copy the rom on a Memory Stick and enjoy the game on their psp. Copying and selling or sharing rom are illegal and Sony has take countermeasures to make this practice more difficult.
Sony regularly releases a new firmware that prevails any copied game from being played on the PSP. Therefore, people who want to play psp roms eventually downgrade their firmware in order to play the games.
The downgrade operation is reversible but will prevent the player from using the functions from the last firmware. Moreover it will disable the update and the use of multiplayer mode with the original game as the sony server will ask to update the firmware in order to play.
PSP roms are easily findable on the peer to peer sharing networks but it is not legal to download such games if the user doesn’t own the game.
Once I have found some psp rom, how do I make them work?
You need to first check your firmware. To do so, you need to look into the system setup. The first line gives you the version of your firmware. An official firmware is something like 3.90 or 2.71. The custom firmwares that allow you to play psp rom include generally the terms “M33” or “SE”. If you have the official firmware, try to find a tutorial about firmware upgrade. Take notice that the modifications are different if you own a psp lite or a psp “fat” (the first versions).
At the time I write this article, the last psp, also called the psp 3000 is so protected that it is nearly impossible to run a psp rom on it. Read the instructions before updating your system and don’t forget to make backups beforehand.
Once your console has a homebrew firmware, you can then proceed to copy your iso files to your memory stick. You can also use a special program that will make you spare by compressing the iso. Indeed psp rom are big files and the use of compression programs will allow to store up to twice more games than you would normally be able to.
Good luck!
